My sweet Granny turned 90 years old today. I was named after her (Lucile is her name and my middle) and she has always been very special to me. She and my grandfather were married 60 years before he passed away about ten years ago, and their marriage served as an inspiration to all of us.
They had two children, my mother and my Uncle Frank. They lived a simple life on a farm in middle Georgia, with most of their time spent raising their family, working hard and going to church.
Most of my family learned to cook from Granny and if anyone asks what our favorite meal is, we usually say, “Granny’s fried chicken!” She doesn’t cook fried chicken very often these days, but she does cook something nearly every day and she even still drives…only about a quarter of a mile up the road to my Mama’s house though! But she did renew her driver’s license last week, “just in case.”
In honor of Granny, I’m posting a list of some of our favorite family recipes that came from her:
These are just a few…there are many more to come. Enjoy!
