Remember last year when we embarked on a grand
mid-life crisis adventure and sold our house without even knowing where we were going? We knew we wanted to be in a place where we could walk to fun stuff and great restaurants, we wanted to be on one level—NO MORE STAIRS—and we wanted to be close to the interstate so we could travel to Augusta faster to see our grandson. Here’s where we ended up:
Those blue umbrellas are part of Blue Moon Pizza and that long balcony above was our balcony. We lived in this mixed-use development in an apartment for about 10 months and enjoyed the experience immensely. It was like we were kids playing house! But alas, we had to get back to reality so we recently bought a new house—two years old and in great condition, although it does have stairs, which we didn’t want. But we have no yard work as that’s covered by the HOA so that’s a big plus!
This is another transition living experience, definitely not our “where we want to grow old” house. We still want to find a mixed-use development with walkable restaurants, shops, and close to the interstate, so once we find that we’ll be moving again! But meantime we’re not renters anymore. There were just a few things we wanted to change in this house—the color inside, the light fixtures, and the kitchen counters and backsplash. So we’ve been working hard for a few weeks and have the painting completed with Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl and the new light fixtures hung, except for the pendants which I cannot decide on. Now we are about to start the counters and then the backsplash. Here’s what’s there currently:
We’ve already covered over that odd little cutout in the wall and plan to hang some stainless steel floating shelves. We’ve also ordered a new apron-front farmhouse stainless sink and faucet. I’ve selected Hanstone Tranquility Quartz for the counters:
So…the dilemma is the backsplash. I want a subtle herringbone marble tile but can’t decide which one. Have ordered a sample from StoneCenterOnline of a polished Carrara White and I think that’s probably the one. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Look for the whole reveal at the end of May!
