Dried Apples Self-Rising Flour Granulated Sugar Unsalted Butter Shortening Ice Water
Put apples in a large pot and add enough water to almost cover. Stir in sugar and bring to a boil, then simmer until apples are tender and juicy, stirring frequently.
Cut shortening and butter into the flour. Then add ice water as needed until the dough is sticky. Knead until the dough is smooth and non-sticky.
Pinch off pieces of dough to make balls, then roll them out until thin. Add apples to one side, then fold the dough over, pressing lightly to seal. Crimp the edges.
Add shortening and butter to a skillet and once hot enough, cook pies until golden brown on both sides.
