Southern Chicken and Dumplings are made with flour and butter, chicken, and broth, and that’s it! This is a classic, simple dish and it’s the ultimate comfort food!
Whole Cooked Chicken Chicken Broth | Self-Rising Flour Unsalted Butter | Ice Water
Add a whole chicken to a large stockpot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until chicken is done and tender.
Cut butter into flour until well mixed, then stir in ice water. Knead on a floured surface until the dough is smooth. Then roll out to about 1/8" thick.
Sprinkle more flour over dough and cut into strips. Add extra flour as needed to prevent sticking. Remove chicken from pot and shred it.
Dredge dumplings in flour and cook them in the simmering broth, until plump and tender. Add chicken back in and cook until broth thickens.
Ultimate comfort food!
