Ingredients
1lb.ground round
1lb.ground sweet or mild Italian sausage
2large white onions, chopped
5clovesgarlic, minced
2 28-oz.cans crushed tomatoes
1 28-oz.can whole tomatoes
2cupsdry red wine
1small can tomato paste
1small can water (use the tomato paste can)
2teaspoonsgranulated sugar
2tablespoonsdried oregano
3tablespoonsdried basil
2tablespoonsdried parsley
salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Brown the ground round and Italian sausage in a large pot. Once browned, remove with a slotted spoon. Pour off excess fat, leaving about 2 tablespoons.
Add chopped onions and garlic to pot and stir for a few minutes on medium heat until starting to brown and get tender.
Add the tomatoes, wine, herbs, sugar, tomato paste, water, and salt and pepper. Stir the meat back into the pot.
Bring to a boil and then simmer on low or medium-low for about two hours, stirring occasionally.
