Five issues a year

The Red Clay Journal

A digital magazine about living and eating in the American South, with stories, interviews, travel pieces, and a few recipes. Issues arrive in January, April, July, and October, plus a holiday issue every November.

The summer issue is waiting in the library the moment you join. See what’s in it.

Every quarter

The Red Clay Kitchen

A full digital cookbook four times a year, built around what’s in season. The summer edition, A Southern Summer, has 30 recipes from pimento cheese to peach cobbler, and several of them have never been published on the site.

Open all the time

The Front Porch

Our private community, open to every member. It’s where we talk recipes, work out what went sideways with the biscuits, and share what’s coming out of my kitchen before it hits the site. Thursday is topic day, and there’s a cooking challenge every month that we do together.

The Front Porch runs in two places, a private Facebook group and our own forum on Discourse. Join whichever one you prefer, or both.

Holiday bonus content

Ahead of every major holiday you’ll get bonus content, including planning guides, menus, and extra recipes. Nine occasions through the year, from Valentine’s Day to Christmas.

20 percent off in the shop

Members get 20 percent off any product sold directly on Southern Food and Fun. We can’t discount products sold on other platforms like Amazon.

Questions

How does the membership work?

Sign up once with your email address. You can get your sign-in link by email or create a password, and your membership activates immediately. You’ll get the site with no ads plus the member library, where the summer issue of The Red Clay Journal and The Red Clay Kitchen: A Southern Summer are already waiting.

How do I get into The Front Porch?

The Front Porch runs in two places and you can use whichever you prefer, or both. For the Discourse forum, sign in on the site and follow the Front Porch link in the menu. Your account carries over, so there’s no second signup and no separate password. For the Facebook group, request to join and I’ll approve you against the member list.

When does new content drop?

New recipes publish on the site several times a month. The cookbook and the magazine both arrive on the first day of each quarter, and the magazine adds a holiday issue on November 1.

Are the included recipes different from what’s on the blog?

Both publications carry recipes from the site along with several that have never been published anywhere.

What happens when founding pricing closes?

Founding pricing ends August 31 or when the 100th seat is taken, whichever comes first. Anyone who joins after that pays the standard rate. Founding members keep $7 a month or $70 a year for as long as they stay members.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. You can cancel anytime and you’ll keep access through the end of your billing period. Memberships are nonrefundable.

What’s the difference between monthly and annual billing?

Both include everything. The standard rate is $9 a month or $79 a year, and the annual plan saves you about three months compared to paying month to month. Memberships are nonrefundable.

Come sit a while

You’ll get the summer magazine and the summer cookbook the minute you sign up, the door to The Front Porch, and every recipe on the site without a single ad.
