January is Hot Tea Month so grab a cup of tea and a little sweet indulgence.
Here’s a shocking secret for you: I do not drink sweet tea. Or unsweet tea. (In the South, we say unsweet not unsweetened.) I know, I know, this is some kind of Southern blasphemy, right?
People call Sweet Tea the House Wine of the South. Well, not for me. My house wine is actually WINE.
But my family loves tea and according to them, mine is just right—meaning it’s got loads of sugar and I rarely make it because nobody needs that much sugar on a regular basis.
So I never imagined I would like hot tea either, but a few years ago, when I was in graduate school, one of my classes was International Women’s Studies or some such thing, and the professor was a delightful woman who had traveled extensively and had many stories to share. And the class primarily comprised women of varying ages, 20s to 50s and a few even older.
The very first night, our professor came in with a portable tea kettle and an assortment of teas and almost everyone grabbed a cup and enjoyed some tea. Not one to pass up an opportunity to fold under imagined peer pressure, I too got a cup and proceeded to prepare some pomegranate-flavored tea.
And I discovered that I loved it!
Since then, I’ve branched out to many different flavors of tea, except for the black tea that’s used to make regular old sweet tea. That I still will not drink. But I love chamomile, anything orange-flavored, and my favorite is green tea. Almost every single day I have a cup of green tea in the middle of the afternoon while I’m working.
Sometimes I’ll slip out of the house with my laptop and run up to the corner where we’re fortunate enough to have a Dunkin’ Donuts. I can work while enjoying one of their new premium hot teas without the distraction of other things going on in my house that also serves as my office.
There are five flavors of Dunkin’ Donuts’ premium teas to choose from: Bold Breakfast Black™ Tea, Chamomile Fields™ Herbal Infusion, Hibiscus Kiss™ Herbal Infusion, Cool Mint Herbal Infusion, and of course my favorite, Harmony Leaf Green™ Tea.
Have you been to a Dunkin’ Donuts lately? I’ve been impressed by the innovation of their menu, with more than just donuts—which are still fabulous! But now they also offer a wide variety of breakfast sandwiches, hot and iced coffees, espresso beverages, and even lunch options with special sandwiches, all of which is available all day.
You can even grab a whole box of the new premium tea to take home with you, with 15 individually-wrapped pyramid tea sachets. Everything on the menu is conveniently ready-to-go so that you can go through the drive-through and be on your way!
Here are the links to my favorite homemade afternoon snacks to enjoy with a cup of hot tea:
Breakfast Cookies – healthy (mostly), great afternoon or breakfast
Shortbread with Chocolate Nutella Ganache, Streusel, and Salted Caramel
Blondies Recipe – Simple and Foolproof!
But if you don’t have time to make your own, may I suggest a Dunkin’ Donuts chocolate donut?
